Volunteering for events

Events throughout the year require your help. Events in a regular year include:

  • Back to School Night Ice Cream Social

  • Harvest Festival

  • Scholastic Book Fair

  • Family Fun Night

  • Donuts with Grownups

  • Teacher Appreciation Week

  • Coyotes On The Run (Fun Run)

We cannot run these events without our volunteers!

Recess & Library Volunteers

We are happy to offer ongoing volunteer opportunities as recess and library helpers. If you'd like to volunteer in either of these positions, we'd love to have you! Just email us at quatamaccc@gmail.com and let us know you'd like to help. For either of these positions, once you've been trained, you are welcome to come in and help out whenever works best in your schedule.

 

You'll need to go through a short 15-30 min volunteer orientation with a trained volunteer so you know how to help in the recess and/or library. You must be an approved volunteer through the district to help out for any volunteer position during school hours.

Getting approved to volunteer through the Hillsboro School District

For many of our events, volunteers need to be approved to volunteer through the Hillsboro School District. It's easy to get approved! Follow the steps on the HSD website HERE. It requires filling out an online form and then getting fingerprinted for free.

Once you have your approval, please send us a copy.  You can do that by following these steps:

1.           Go to https://www.hsd.k12.or.us/domain/62

2.           Click “Volunteer Application/Check Status” from the LEFT COLUMN

3.           Click “All Other Schools”

4.           Click “Check My Status” and fill in your personal information

5.           Send a screenshot to quatamaccc@gmail.com

Volunteer FAQ

  • Q: I have younger kids at home. Can I bring them with me when I volunteer in the school?

    • A: It depends.

    • If you're volunteering for an evening event that does not take place during regular school hours and the job you've volunteered for is something that you can safely do with your children along side you -- yes. In that case, you are more than welcome to bring your children with you.

    • If you are volunteering during the school day (in your child's classroom, the library, recess, or anywhere else in the school) -- no. Younger children are not able to accompany you while you volunteer during school hours. This is a school-wide policy.​

  • Q: Can I volunteer in my child's classroom?

    • It's up to their teacher! Email their teacher directly. Some teachers love having volunteers and some prefer not to.

    • Please note that you will need to be an approved volunteer through the district in order to volunteer in the classroom or to accompany your child's class on any field trips throughout the year.

    • If your child's teacher prefers not to have volunteers in the classroom, consider volunteering to help out at recess or in the library. Those are super fun ways to interact with your child at school and be a big help out our school staff.​

  • Q: I think I finished my paperwork for my district volunteer approval. Am I approved now?

    • You will need to complete all of the following before being approved:​

      • District volunteer paperwork​

      • Fingerprints (via the district--fingerprinting done for your job or another school district does not count)

      • Receive email confirmation that your volunteer status has been approved

    • If you have done the paperwork and fingerprints and you are still waiting in limbo, follow the directions above for checking your status. If your status is still pending and it seems like it's taking a long time, please contact Kristina Gantt (email above). As much as the CCC and front office staff at Quatama would love to help you, there is nothing we are able to do to help your volunteer status. It has to be approved through the district.
